Titanfall PC’s 48GB Install Size Due to Uncompressed Audio

10:39 am
Titanfall‘s PC and Xbox One versions have wildly different install sizes, clocking in at 48GB and 17GB, respectively. Respawn Entertainment has now addressed the community’s biggest question: why? Lead engineer Richard Baker came forth and stated that a majority of the install size, 35GB to be exact, is tied to uncompressed audio. This approach was taken to ensure that low-end PCs could still enjoy a smooth Titanfall experience. “We have audio we either download or install from the disc, then we uncompress it. We probably could have had audio decompress off disc, but we were a little worried about min spec and the fact that a two-core machine would dedicate a huge chunk of one core to just decompressing audio.” Take comfort in knowing that, whether you have a high end or low end PC, a majority of its resources will be used to focus on running the game, not dealing with audio processes. At least now we have been given a reason for the install size discrepancy.
